Responsibilities/Qualifications

The Accounts Payable Manager will lead a team of 4 to deliver exceptional service to all stakeholders including pet partners, team members, and other internal stakeholders using established accounting principles and procedures. Regular interaction with leadership within the accounting and finance team should be expected. You will assist the Director of Accounting with day-to-day accounts payable functions while ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments to our pet partners.

 

Accounts Payable Manager key responsibilities include:

 

Oversee Day-to-Day Operations of Accounts Payable Team (55%)

  • Supervise a team of accounts payable Associates, which includes hiring, coaching, developing, training, and performance management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of all inventory and non-inventory related invoices after resolution of any discrepancies identified
  • Verify payment runs prior to obtaining approval from the corporate controller
  • Oversee reports regarding cash flow; ensure correct payments are made in a timely manner.
  • Develops guidelines for proper handling and coding of invoices to maintain general ledger expense account and inventory records.
  • Maintain pet partner master and payment terms including controls over setting up new pet partners and changes to existing pet partners.
  • Ensure proper controls and segregation of duties are adhered to throughout the accounts payable process in accordance with company policy and procedures.

 

Communication with Stakeholders (25%)

  • Analyze and resolve outstanding issues and follow-up with the controller, director, or applicable business partners to ensure issues were resolved.
  • Research and resolve any EDI transmission, electronic invoice issues, or other IT system issues with appropriate parties
  • Research and respond to internal and external stakeholder requests and questions

 

Month-end and Year-end Responsibilities (10%)

  • Ensure all deadlines are met to accurately and timely close accounts payable
  • Manage monthly closing processes including accounts payable cutoffs and accruals.
  • Serve as a vital member of the accounting team, ensuring expenditures and payments are appropriately reflected in financial reporting.
  • Ensure 1099 reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Assist with audit requests as needed

 

Special Projects (10%)

  • Identify and provide recommendations for continuous improvement in the effectiveness and efficiency of the AP function
  • Assist with efforts to move towards a more automated process for invoices and electronic payment of pet partners
  • Support leadership on ad hoc projects and requests

PAWsome Accounts Payable Manager candidates will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting is required.
  • CPA/MBA or progress towards completion is preferred.
  • 3-5 years in accounts payable or similar experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing teams and mentoring others is required.
  • Experience with or knowledge of various accounts payable concepts such as 3-way match and payment terms is required.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, and segregation of duties.
  • Confident in proactive verbal and written communication at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills as well as a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Ability to build relationships cross-functionally to drive attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Proficient with accounting software, Microsoft Office applications and standard office equipment.
