The Marketing Automation Specialist is responsible for the technical execution, optimization, and automation of our customer marketing programs across email, SMS, and customer journeys. This role combines marketing technology expertise with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to build targeted campaigns, develop automated solutions, and ensure data-driven customer experiences. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable writing SQL queries, building dynamic content, troubleshooting complex automations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to bring campaigns to life

The Marketing Automation Specialist is a hybrid position scheduled to work in person from our corporate headquarters (Pet Central) with office days on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and remote work on Thursdays and Fridays.

What You'll Do

Campaign Execution & Automation

• Build, test, deploy, and optimize email and SMS campaigns within Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) & Attentive.
• Coordinate campaign execution from intake through deployment, including creative reviews, approvals, quality assurance, and scheduling.
• Design and build scalable email templates, audience frameworks, and automated marketing programs.
• Develop and maintain customer journeys, triggered communications, and lifecycle marketing programs.
• Support technical campaign builds, including API integrations and advanced personalization.

Data & Audience Management

• Build and maintain SQL queries to support audience segmentation, campaign targeting, reporting, and automation.
• Serve as the subject matter expert on customer data within SFMC, including data architecture, integrations, and data utilization.
• Troubleshoot data, segmentation, and automation issues to ensure campaign accuracy and performance.

Optimization & Analytics

• Monitor campaign performance and deliverability metrics, providing insights and recommendations to improve results.
• Analyze customer engagement data to identify opportunities for optimization and personalization.
• Stay current on emerging marketing automation capabilities and recommend innovative solutions to improve efficiency and customer experience.

Quality & Compliance

• Conduct thorough quality assurance testing for campaigns, journeys, dynamic content, and audience selections.
• Ensure all communications adhere to brand standards, email marketing best practices, privacy regulations, and CAN-SPAM requirements.
• Perform rendering and deliverability testing across devices, browsers, and email clients.

Collaboration & Vendor Management

• Partner with creative, merchandising, CRM, analytics, and technology teams to deliver integrated customer experiences.
• Collaborate with third-party vendors and partners to execute campaigns and implement marketing technology solutions.
• Document processes, best practices, and technical standards to support team scalability and operational excellence.

PAWsome Candidates Will Have

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in email marketing, marketing automation, CRM, or a related role.
• Hands-on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) required
• Strong proficiency in SQL, HTML, and AMPscript.
• Experience building customer journeys, automated campaigns, and audience segmentation strategies.
• Understanding of customer data management, data integrations, and marketing technology ecosystems.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into action.
• Experience troubleshooting technical marketing issues and developing scalable solutions.
• Knowledge of email deliverability, rendering best practices, and CAN-SPAM compliance.
• Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with APIs and marketing technology integrations.
• Experience with SMS marketing platforms and mobile messaging strategies.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite or similar design tools.
• Experience with QA processes, testing methodologies, and campaign governance.
• Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications are a plus.
