Overview

The Accounting & SEC Reporting Manager is part of a newly formed external reporting team which is responsible for the preparation and review of Franchise Group, Inc.’s (NASDAQ: FRG) quarterly and annual financial statements (10-Q’s and 10-K) as well as the oversight of technical accounting matters across Franchise Group’s portfolio of companies.

 

This role will be based in Livonia, MI, report to the Corporate Controller and be part of the Pet Supplies Plus (a Franchise Group, Inc. Company) Finance team of 40 individuals. Pet Supplies Plus (PSP) is the largest independent pet retailer and leading franchise pet concept in the U.S., and its Finance team manages both Pet Supplies Plus business as well as the accounting and SEC reporting for Franchise Group, Inc.

Responsibilities/Qualifications

The Accounting & SEC Reporting Manager key responsibilities include:

 

Leading the Franchise Group’s internal and external reporting function (50%)

  • Prepare all SEC reporting documents for Franchise Group (10-Q, 10-K, proxy filings, prospectus supplements and other ad-hoc filings), including assisting in the XBRL process.
  • Lead intercompany accounting and consolidation of Franchise Group’s financial statements.
  • Prepare the quarterly cash flow statement and workbook and assist with the cash flow forecasting process.
  • Support investor relations in preparation of press release materials and addressing investor questions.
  • Prepare footnote support schedules and disclosure checklists.
  • Act as a main point of contact with external auditors; answer auditor questions and provide supporting detail as appropriate.
  • Assist with ad hoc reporting requests as needed.

Acting as technical accounting resource for The Franchise Group and its subsidiaries (25%)

  • Monitor new accounting pronouncements and lead implementation of new accounting standards across Franchise Group’s subsidiaries.
  • Assist with research and preparation of technical accounting position papers.
  • Work with other members of Finance in providing accounting guidance on complex and unusual transactions.

Assisting the broader PSP Finance team with reporting and analysis (25%)

  • Partner with PSP Finance team on operational accounting matters such as month-end variance research and analysis and technical accounting matters.
  • Assist with additional accounting- and finance-related projects as needed.

 

Accounting & SEC Reporting Manager Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in accounting or finance preferred
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 5-7 years of experience preferably in public accounting or with a public company
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements (including XBRL)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams
  • Position to be based at Pet Supplies Plus headquarters in Livonia, MI with the ability to work remotely; plan is for 100% remote work in the near-term, and expect 50%+ remote work in the future.
  • Limited travel expected (0-10%); candidate should be able to travel to Livonia, MI as needed for team and department meetings.
  • Experience with Workiva or other SEC filing software
  • Experience with Hyperion or other financial reporting tool.
